Cellino cleared of tax evasion on his yacht

Massimo Cellino, now a 50% stakeholder in Leeds United following the sale of half the club to fellow Italian Andrea Radrizzani earlier this month, has been cleared of wrongdoing relating to tax evasion on his yacht.

Italian media has reported that the incident, which was grounds for a ban for Cellino from the UK’s Football League, has been cleared up after the offence he was accused of became decriminalised.

Ex- Cagliari Calcio president Cellino had been accused of tax evasion in Italy after allegedly avoiding import tax payments on his yacht, Lucky 23, which he had set up a separate company to acquire.

In 2015 he was fined €40,000 by Italian courts for importing a Range Rover without proper tax payments in place.

Cellino is currently fighting an 18-month ban imposed on him by the Football Association over the transfer of Ross McCormack from Leeds to Fulham in 2014. He and Leeds United were fined £250,000 each over alleged illegal payments in relation to the move.
