Countdown is on to launch of £30m Leeds supercasino

The £30m Victoria Gate Casino, the only ‘supercasino’ in the North is set to open this week on 26 January.

The 24-hour a day operation will only be closed on Christmas Day as it looks to attract serious gamers and tourists alike.

Part of the wider development by Hammersons, the 50,000 sq ft Victoria Gate site is being delivered by Global Gaming Ventures.

It features a live sports bar in association with Coors, as well as a contrasting champagne and cocktail bar Curve in association with champagne brand Moët & Chandon, with upper and lower gaming floors and a 60-cover pan-asian restaurant.

Poker areas and VIP gaming machines have been strategically placed in the casino, designed by Wellington Street architects and casino specialists Fuse, and will support 205 jobs in the city.

It has a capacity of 1,400, and 140 slot machines as well as outdoor terraces for guests.

Patrick Noates, venue director, spoke to TheBusinessDesk.com at a sneak preview of the site last week. He said: “We want to be part of the bigger development here and add to the retail offering.

“[Leeds] is a vibrant city well known for going out in the evenings location here has been part of a retail and leisure destination late volumes of people

He said that gambling had now become a “mainstream leisure activity” and he said: “There’s been a general reduction and lowering of spend per visit but volumes have increased.”
