My Yorkshire: Tony Mucci, Westfield Health

Tony Mucci is head of propositions and marketing strategy at Westfield Health, based in Sheffield.

Where do you live/where are you from?
I live in Rastrick near Brighouse and I’m originally from Halifax.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Whitby – I love the history of the place and have had some great times there with my wife and children, both when they were very young and more recently now they are both older. I’ve also got a soft spot for Malham Cove, it’s great for walking and the scenery is something else.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
I’ve been talking about wanting to go on a canal boat holiday since I was about 18 – it has always sounded like a great way to get to know parts of the region I’ve not been to before as well as revisiting some familiar places

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

There have been a few so it’s difficult to narrow it down, but it would be very hard to beat fish and chips with the family at the Magpie Café in Whitby – including on one occasion the unofficial entertainment offered by two very inebriated ladies, one of whom managed to lock herself in the facilities! Or a more refined meal at Brooks Restaurant in Brighouse – minus the children of course.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
Being unwilling to consider it as anything other than God’s Own County

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

The tallest-ever Englishman is a Yorkshireman. William Bradley was born in Market Weighton, one of 13 children. By the age of 20, he was seven feet nine inches tall. He made appearances at fairs all over England, calling himself the Yorkshire Giant and charging people a shilling a time to shake his hand.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Geoffrey Boycott. Master of his craft when he was playing, always honest and to the point now he’s a commentator.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

After completing a Three Peaks walk with friends (which was great), our planned overnight camping stay ended up as a night in the pub and then sleeping in the car after our tent collapsed and couldn’t be fixed (less great). Even though we were shattered I still can’t recall getting any sleep – a real problem as I started a new job the day after!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
Manchester United.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
The tea – not for me I’m afraid, tried it once, not keen.
