Leeds United co-owner Cellino’s ban delayed

Italian businessman and co-owner of Leeds United Football Club has had his ban delayed until his appeal is heard.

Cellino received a ban from the Football Association over allegations relating to the £10m transfer of Ross McCormack in 2014, just months after the Italian acquired the club.

Earlier this month his ban of 18 months was reduced to 12 months following a successful appeal. He was initially fined £250,000, as was the club, but this was reduced to £100,000.

The Italian’s ban had been scheduled to begin on Saturday, 18 February.

The sanctions have now been delayed by an appeal board pending the outcome of a legal challenge brought by Cellino.

In a statement on Leeds United’s website, Cellino alleged that the decision of the FA Appeal Board was “irrational, procedurally unfair and that there was apparent bias.”

Cellino sold a 50% stake in the club to fellow Italian Andrea Radrizzani last month.
