First phase of £60m Meadowhall refurb set to complete

The first phase of Meadowhall’s £60m refurbishment is due to be completed next month.

In an update, the South Yorkshire shopping complex said that the full project would be complete by late 2017.

210 construction workers have been on site at night to continue the project.

The refurbishment is the biggest investment in Meadowhall since it was opened in 1990.

Another detailed planning application was submitted to Sheffield City Council in November 2016 for a £300m leisure hall as the shopping complex continues its modernisation plans.

The 330,000 sq ft proposed extension forms part of a five-year vision to extend the leisure offer at the centre, helping further grow the appeal of the Sheffield City Region.

Darren Pearce, Meadowhall Centre director, said: “Once completed, the works will have made important and much needed updates to the mall creating four new districts, each with a distinct character and appeal of its own. We have gathered feedback from shoppers, retailers and restaurants to be able to create an environment that responds to changing lifestyles.

“We are very proud to see so much hard work going into the process in order to deliver a modern atmosphere befitting of Meadowhall’s reputation as Yorkshire’s premier shopping destination.”

Meadowhall welcomed Michael Kors, Urban Decay, Ghost London, Hawes & Curtis, Nespresso, Pret A Manger, Tapas Revolution and Coffika this year.
