People: Lawyer joins Newtons from DAC Beachcroft; New president for Harrogate and District Law Society; and more

Commercial property solicitor Kathryn Hargreaves has joined Newtons Solicitors.

She joins Newtons after more than 12 years DAC Beachcroft, Leeds, where she was an associate in the real estate team providing legal advice on commercial property issues nationally.

Hargreaves qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and developed a special interest in commercial property law which she has practiced nationally since then.

She said: “I’m delighted to be part of a fast-growing regional law firm with an opportunity to handle a wider range of commercial property matters and create strong professional relationships with clients.”

Newtons Solicitors has its head office in Knaresborough and nine offices across Yorkshire and the North East.

Kate Maybury, senior associate at Raworths, has been appointed president of the Harrogate and District Law Society. Kate Maybury, senior associate at Raworths, has been appointed president of the Harrogate and District Law Society.

Maybury, a specialist in trusts wills and estates, will be the representative for the district’s legal profession, overseeing items such as training and education.

She said: “I am delighted to accept this prestigious position and look forward to supporting the profession in the Harrogate District over the coming year.”

The Harrogate and District Law Society has existed for nearly 100 years and the Harrogate District currently has more than 350 members.

Clarion costs and litigation funding teamClarion’s costs and litigation funding team is continuing to nurture young talent with the appointment of a third apprentice paralegal.

Katy Roberts will study CILEX Level 3 over the next two years, alongside Ethan Bradley and Hannah Stead, who both joined the firm’s law costs team in November.

Clarion partner Andrew McAulay, who leads the costs litigation team, said: “It important to look ahead and invest in the development of the next generation of paralegals and lawyers.  Katy is the fifth apprentice to join Clarion in the last 12 months and we’re proud that three of these enthusiastic young people have become part of our growing team.

“We have established a national reputation for our expertise in costs litigation, developed from our commercial success as a service department within Clarion and, since 2008, we have extended our specialism in maximising costs recovery to legal firms throughout the UK.  We’re pleased to welcome Katy to the team and look forward to sharing our knowledge with her.”
