1. Jorvik Viking Festival Viking festival

Recognised as the largest Viking Festival in Europe, the annual Jorvik Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s Viking heritage. Taking place every February Half Term, the festival’s programme of family-friendly events, lectures, guided walks and battle re-enactments attracts over 40,000 visitors each year from across the globe.

This weekend will be the last chance to see Kingston Art Group’s exhibition of new and never before shown work. The exhibition of work that shows up-to-date current practice or represents the dark recesses of the studio, including significant moments within an artist’s work.

Date: Until Sunday February 26
Location: Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield
The Netherlands National Circus’ brand new show for 2017 has arrived bringing a fast paced, all human production to Sheffield. Packed full of comedy, juggling, aerial performances, balancing, acrobatics, stunts and more, this circus event is two hours of family entertainment by an international cast of performers.

Location: The Tetley, Leeds

To end the half term, why not entertain the kids with a family art workshop. These creative activity sessions are led by artists and include everything from making simple prints, to designing robots, book-making and creating recycled crafts. The drop-in activities are open to all but are especially suitable for families with children aged 5 – 11. Visitors can stay for as long or as little as they like and all activities are free!

5. “Rusalka” Met Opera NY ruskala
Date: Sunday February 26
Location: Spotlight Theatre, Bridlington

Rusalka is a water nymph who is immortal and falls in love with a mortal man — a prince who finds himself repeatedly drawn to the quiet lake where Rusalka lives. Deciding to give up her immortality to pursue true love, Rusalka is rejected by the prince and left to a hellish life of eternal solitude. Of course, there’s much more to the story — the truly romantic part. The prince realizes his mistake, seeks Rusalka out, and willingly makes his own, ultimate sacrifice, to restore her immortality.
