Crêpe brand brings taste of Brittany to Yorkshire

Vintage style street food trader Crêpe Lucette is celebrating Pancake Day with a series of Crêpes & Cocktail evenings set to take place in Leeds this March.

Manahatta bar will be hosting Crêpe Lucette’s vintage style dining experience twice weekly – on Wednesdays and Sundays – all throughout March.

The launch event for Crêpes & Cocktails will take place at the same venue on the evening of Pancake Day, February 28 and will see guests served champagne, a range of cocktails, appetisers and a two-course crêpe-inspired meal including steak and seafood.

Crêpe Lucette owner, Lucie Mountain said: “This is the sort of thing people wouldn’t expect. There’ll be canapés, blini type crêpes with goat’s cheese and homemade sweet chilli jams and little bits of rocket and that sort of thing. There’ll be some interesting desserts as well, there’ll be nothing that people will have tasted before.”

PancakesOften accompanied with cider or shakes, Lucie wanted to add a “vintage style twist” by pairing the various crêpe fillings with different flavour cocktails.

“Cocktails and crêpes is an unusual combination but we’re trying to do something a bit different, because we’re all about fun and feeling good.”

A key element of the Crêpe Lucette brand is the glamourous ‘Lucette’ waitresses, who will be sporting polka dot dresses, classic victory rolls and bold red lipstick on the launch night.

Established through a passion for French crêpes and inspired by the lack of quality street food brands at the time, Crêpe Lucette was born after Lucie took a trip to Brittany to master the art of the traditional French crêpe.

She said: “I thought if I’m going to learn how to do it I want to do it properly rather than learning through a Youtube video. I learned how to make authentic crêpes, taking care to choose the right products and ingredients and that’s the same recipe I always stick to.”

When the business launched in 2011, Crêpe Lucette predominantly traded at farmer’s markets. Six years on, Lucie is embracing a shift into the events side of the business, having traded at some of the UK’s largest festivals including Glastonbury, Festival No6, Carfest and Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival.

With the brand becoming known nationally for its vintage style trailers and “unique destination”, Lucie hopes to expand Crêpe Lucette’s Yorkshire offering, planning to create an all-year-round “portfolio of food and drink concepts” in the region.

“I’m a Yorkshire lass, that’s where I was born, I’ve started trying to base myself between Lincolnshire and getting back to my Yorkshire roots and getting more involved in Leeds. I want to try and push the business so it’s more back to my roots because that’s where my heart is really,” she added.
