People: Accountancy firm adds to tax team; New MD for property developer; and more

Leeds chartered accountants Brown Butler has strengthened its specialist tax team with the appointment of Shirley Brumpton as VAT director.

Brumpton, a former VAT Inspector with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), has spent the past 27 years as a VAT specialist with a number of accountancy firms, including Bentley Jennison and Baker Tilly.  

Her appointment brings the number of fee earners in Brown Butler’s tax team to 10.

Director of tax, Craig Hughes, said: “I am delighted that Shirley has joined our growing tax team.  She brings a wealth of experience of VAT issues which will be of considerable value to the firm and our clients.”

Mulgrave Properties has appointed Ian Hessay as managing directorProperty developer Mulgrave Properties has appointed Ian Hessay as managing director.

He joins the company from his previous role as divisional director at Linden Homes.  

Hessay was also managing director at Persimmon York between 2000 and 2008.

He said: “Mulgrave Properties is operating in a hugely exciting niche market within the industry.  I am looking forward to driving the development and growth of the business as we continue to take the opportunity to build on unique sites which are too small for the large national house builders, however hugely attractive to us and our target audience.
