Activity centre and law firms listed as Best Companies to Work for

The top company from Yorkshire listed in the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work for was a children’s activity centre, which came up against big businesses from around the UK as well as the region.

The rankings, which judges companies on attitude to management, staff wellbeing and benefits, saw Robinwood Activity Centre in Todmorden came in at 11th place.

A new entrant from the Yorkshire region was Zenith Vehicle Contracts, recently acquired in a major £750m deal and subsequently bought a £60m rival.

The company is set to move to new 45,000 sq ft headquarters in Leeds to provide further facilities for staff.

Marisa Waddington, HR director at Zenith said: “This is the fourth year we’ve achieved a top 100 ranking in the survey, and it’s a great reward for the hard work of our team. We recognise that our people are key to the continued high performance of the business, and invest time and money to ensure we can offer a great place to work.”

The second new entrant was Stewarts Law, which features on the list at number 58 amongst 10 other law firms across the country.

John Cahill, managing partner of Stewarts Law commented: “We are delighted to appear in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For. We will ensure that our staff continue to be well looked after and thrive in a dynamic yet supportive environment.”

Regulars including Skipton Building Society returned to the list in 88th place this year, down from 47th. Leeds-based Pure Gym was another that lost ground in this year’s rankings, going to 91st position from 33rd.

With more than 2,000 staff, JCT600 in Bradford came in at 57th, up from 84th place last year and Sky Betting & Gaming made it into 67th place, from 94th the year before.

Brand and HR director, Rob Painter, who collected the award at a gala dinner at Battersea Park on Thursday evening, said: “We’ve worked really hard this year, not only to maintain, but improve our place in the rankings. Our ambition is to be the UK’s best digital business and it’s wonderful to be acknowledged for the second year running among the cream of Britain’s employers.”

Also listed were Bibby Financial Services, newcomers Freeths, Stewarts Law, Mills & Reeve, New World Trading Company, and BrewDog.
