Automotive supplier expands in West Midlands

A Knaresborough-based automotive components firm which supplies Jaguar Land Rover is expanding its operations due to high demand.

Treves specialises in the design and manufacture of carpets, boot trims, parcel trays and roller blinds and although its UK base is in Yorkshire, opted to open a facility in the West Midlands so it could be close to JLR.

The company, which is based in Paris and has a factory in Knaresborough, launched its office in Coventry last summer and its expansion has come sooner than expected.

The office, at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley, is currently involved in two projects with JLR, with a further three set to be developed over the next five to seven years.

Ian Boyce, who heads up the Coventry office, said: “We always planned to grow here but we thought it would take two to three years, rather than six months.

“There are four permanent staff based in this office but we are also a base for project teams coming over from France or for people coming down from Yorkshire who are working on the projects with Jaguar Land Rover.

“They are very exciting projects – one of which is on the company’s new electrical vehicle, which will go into production in around a year’s time.”

He said the flexibility of space at the science park was such that it could accommodate the firm’s growth.

Jane Talbot, of the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre, said: “The automotive sector in Coventry and Warwickshire is thriving and Treves is another company we have helped to attract to the city and are now helping to grow.

“We try to be as flexible as possible with our tenants here so they can grow at a pace that suits them and it’s great to see Treves already looking to expand.”
