50 jobs at risk as training firm enters administration

A Chesterfield training firm has entered administration, risking 54 jobs.

Slic Training (International) has called in administrators from Begbies Traynor in Sheffield to run the firm.

It trains around 900 people, and delivers training to national companies as a subcontractor. It had around £3.6m in contracts at the time of its administration.

Slic’s other contractors were reportedly Calderdale College, with a £563,465 contract, Prevista Ltd with a £891,000 contract, Qube Qualifications and Development Ltd with a contract worth £273,894, RNN Group with a £373,927 contract, and Sheffield City Council with a £1,773 contract.

In an interview with FE Week, chief executive Ian Benison said the company had been unable to pay wages at the end of February and was forced to place the compnay into administration  due to an “unforseen set of circumstances.”

Slic was set up in 2008 by Ian Benison to provide ex-offenders with training. The firm specialises in facilities management training, covering areas from horticulture to cookery.

In its latest accounts to 31 October 2015, Slic owed just over £90,000 to creditors.
