Clipper on track for expansion

CLIPPER Logistics Group, the Yorkshire-based provider of retail and high-value logistics, is to expand into The Potter Group’s rail connected distribution centre at Selby.

Clipper has secured a number of retail customer projects for the facility that will go-live in the autumn months.

It will take over the lease on the 310,000 sq ft facility this month, which will enable Clipper to offer direct rail connectivity as part of its logistics solutions.

The site’s proximity to the East coast also provides links into Clipper’s recently acquired European operation.

New jobs will be created immediately and the firm has plans to continue building operations at the site until the distribution centre has reached its full capacity.

Tony Mannix, managing director of Clipper, said: “The new Selby site represents an exciting new development for us and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the local economy.

“We have worked on a number of projects involving the use of rail within customer’s supply chains and the site in Selby provides a fantastic platform for handling container traffic from the southern ports and integration with the new deep sea Northern Gateway at Teesport.

He added: “By working closely with Matthew Lamb and his team at The Potter Group we want to fully exploit rail connected solutions for our retail customers.”

Mr Mannix said Mark Crane, leader of Selby Council, was instrumental in delivering a council backed solution that made the transition to Selby a viable option for Clipper.

The group specialises in retail and high value logistics. With 28 distribution centres, circa 3.5m sq ft of warehousing space, 600 vehicles and a 2,500 strong workforce.

Clipper recently expanded into Germany enabling it to offer Clipper solutions throughout Europe.
