Patrick holds a law degree from University College, London and was admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales in 1984. His practice covers all aspects of contentious and non contentious IP law. From 1986 to 1989, before returning to London, he had worked in Hong Kong where he handled a number of anti-counterfeiting campaigns for Japanese, European and USA multi-nationals.

In 1992, Patrick was headhunted to join Walker Morris to set up an IP practice from a standing start.

He is a recognised leader in his field and has held a number of posts within intellectual property based organisations. For example, he is a past chairman of the Parallel Imports Committee of the International Trademark Association, the USA based major brand owners forum.

Patrick writes regularly on IP subjects and is frequently asked to address IP seminars. For example, in March 2005 he was invited to talk on behalf of the UK's Anti-Counterfeiting Group at a seminar organised by the Japanese Patent Office in Tokyo and then in the following month he was asked to address a seminar by the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Bureau. In October, he spoke at a seminar on anti counterfeiting hosted by the Japanese Export and Trade Council in Bejing.
