Accountants aim for global title

A Yorkshire accountancy firm has been named the national Firm of the Future by Intuit and will now represent the UK at Intuit’s annual conference, QuickBooks Connect in San Jose, California this November.

Business Works UK Ltd, based in Garforth, Leeds, has been awarded the title by Intuit, in recognition of its innovative approach to its work, embracing the use of cloud technologies and modern marketing techniques.

Now in its third year, Intuit’s contest searches across the globe to find leading accounting, bookkeeping and tax firms that eagerly deploy cloud technologies, use business models to better value their expertise, and grow their practice with modern marketing techniques. Countless hopeful firms from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States have entered to vie for the $10,000 grand prize – and for a shot at the title of Firm of the Future.

Managing director Jo Tomlinson said: “We were absolutely delighted to be named the UK winner.

“To us, embracing technology and the cloud makes initiatives such as Making Tax Digital much easier for our clients to deal with.  Making life easier for our clients and allowing them to focus on growing and developing their businesses as effectively as possible is very important to us.”

Business Works UK Ltd was chosen as the UK winner after submitting evidence of their company’s work, culture and vision, demonstrating how their values tie in with the Firm of the Future scheme. They were judged by a panel from Intuit’s global sites.

“We are thrilled to announce Business Works UK as one of the world’s top four Firms of the Future,” said Rich Preece, global leader of Intuit’s Accountant Segment, Small Business and Self-Employed Group. “Business Works UK is a leader in the field, showcasing expertise in all areas – from dialing up their modern marketing presence to leveraging the cloud to becoming a trusted advisor – and we couldn’t be more excited to see how integrating these technologies has transformed their practice.”

As well as $5,000 in prize money, the company has won an all-expenses-paid trip to California for two, to attend QuickBooks Connect. There, they will face the other finalists from Canada, Australia and the USA all hoping to be named the Global Firm of the Future – with a $10,000 top prize.

The winner will be chosen based on a public vote, which runs from Monday, October 16 to Sunday, October 29 and be announced on stage at QuickBooks Connect.

“Our clients have already promised us their support, which is fantastic,” said Jo. “However, in order to compete with the other finalists, we really need votes from as many people as possible.

“We’re flying the flag for Yorkshire and the UK, so we hope as many people as possible will get behind us and cast their vote before the deadline on October 29.”
