Bradford brokers show dogged determination

Packetts’, the Bradford based insurance brokers, have just completed a year of charity fund-raising for Guide Dogs. At the start of the year the aim was to raise £5,000 to name a guide dog puppy. Following the completion of the walk, that target has already been passed, with well over £6,000 in the kitty.

The main money spinner was a 25 km hike in June from Leeds to Packetts’ office on Ashley Wharf in Shipley, representing the 25 year business relationship between Packetts and Guide Dogs. To hit and then go beyond their £5,000 target, Packetts’ staff arranged a series of events; a team participated in the Bradford 10k run in March; there were quizzes, weekly dress down days; an office tuck shop selling healthy snacks and a blindfold challenge evening.

“We’ve had a close business relationship with Guide Dogs for 25 years, providing them with bespoke insurance arrangements to meet their changing needs,” says Marshall Sugden, Packetts’ Managing Director. “Many visually impaired people rarely leave their homes alone. Having a Guide Dog can give them freedom and independence, enabling them to live the life they choose. That’s why we selected Guide Dogs as our charity partners for the year. The guide dog puppy we’re fund raising for will be called Sydney after Sydney Packett, the man who founded this business back in 1920.”

Debbie Linford, Engagement Officer at Guide Dogs, said: “We were delighted that Packetts chose us as their charity of the year. And the end result is even better! Our congratulations go to them for a fantastic year of fund raising on our behalf. Every pound raised makes a difference to people living with sight loss. There is a huge need for our help, as there are almost two million people in the UK who are blind or partially sighted, a figure that could double by 2050.”
