Consumer Rights – what businesses need to know

Faulty goods or a misinterpretation of service provision can have a significant impact on the reputation of a business. It’s important that businesses who sell consumer goods have a thorough understanding of consumer rights to help them stay within the law when dealing with a complaint.

In recognition of this, West Yorkshire Trading Standards are running a series of training workshops on the Consumer Rights Act. The training has been designed to suit the needs of any retailer who sells goods or provides a service to the consumer, both on the high street and on-line. The three key areas covered are:

  • The Consumer Rights Act 2015 – covering consumer rights and trader obligations;
  • The requirements under The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013;
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

The first session of 2018 took place in February with positive feedback from attendees. Hanne Jackson, Customer Relations Team Leader for lighting design experts Dowsing & Reynolds said of the training: ‘A great course where I left with a good understanding of consumer rights and how they can help my company.’

The next Consumer Rights Act for Businesses training workshop is taking place on Tuesday 20th March, 9:30 to 12:30. For further information visit www. wyjs.org.uk/training or call Jackie White on 0113 393 9908.
