New owners ditch intu name from shopping centre

The new owners of a Nottingham shopping centre are set to drop the intu name after take charge of the building earlier this year.

intu signage has been taken down from the front of the building to reveal the name many shoppers have always known the retail destination by – Victoria Centre.

Nigel Wheatley, centre director at Victoria Centre, said: “For many in Nottingham, we have always been simply Victoria Centre, so it only seemed right to be known as that going forwards.

“We know that 2020 has seen shoppers seeking comfort in the familiar, with brands and the products they love, so we were very conscious about making any big changes.

“It’s a new era for the centre, but one where we haven’t forgotten how shoppers in Nottingham see us and what they love visiting us for.”

Since 5 November, Victoria Centre has been operating on a partially-closed basis with essential stores open as normal, a small number of retailers offering click and collect services and takeaway available from several food outlets.

Wheatley added: “The decorations are up and the Christmas songs are playing. It may not be a completely normal Christmas but our team will be making it feel as festive as possible.

“We will be announcing our Christmas opening hours shortly to make sure everyone has plenty of time to safely get their gifts for friends and family, following government guidelines.”

Back in October, Victoria Centre left the portfolio of intu properties and was taken over by new management, with Global Mutual appointed asset manager and Savills as the new property manager.
