TheBusinessDesk.com is delighted to welcome Reshma Sheik, chairperson at Nottinghamshire-based Octavian Security UK and Dr Sophie Dale-Black, director, UK network – Midlands and North of England at the British Business Bank as guest speakers at our forthcoming Women in Business Lunch on Wednesday February 1.

Born and raised in Leicester, Reshma left a career in the legal sector and is the only female minority business chairperson in the UK within the male-dominated security industry. Today, she heads a business that has a turnover of more than £9m.

Reshma is a perfect example of how women can lead in today’s changing marketplace. Her collaborative leadership style has proven to be effective in delivering outstanding results. Reshma has created an environment that is friendly, professional and “family like”, whilst juggling her own young family.

Reshma, however, believes her success is based on mutual respect, clear vision, direction and recruitment of diverse teams that add strength and depth to the business.

She has dedicated her life and energy to re-establishing Octavian Security as a national force, whilst maintaining its East Midland roots. She is also committed to investing back into a local community, where she was born, raised and studied.

Sophie focuses on working across the business support community in the Midlands and the North of England to help the Bank to understand and overcome the challenges smaller businesses face in their access to finance journey.

She previously worked in strategic relationship and communication roles at ICAEW and Innovate UK, and research and innovation management in the higher education sector (Loughborough, Nottingham and Newcastle universities). Away from work, she is vice chair of the Governing Council at the University of Leicester, and Member of its Nomination and Remuneration Committees.

Guests at the event, which will take place at Baresca in Nottingham city centre, will have the chance to hear from Reshma on her career and future plans, network with their peers and enjoy a tapas lunch.
