National Justice Museum facing launch delay

The launch of the National Justice Museum in Nottingham is facing delays after a hold-up in the capital works.

Originally scheduled for a February 2017 opening, the new museum launch has been pushed back to “later in 2017”.

The project, which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, will see Nottingham’s Galleries of Justice Museum and their education provider, the National Centre for Citizenship and Law, come together as the National Justice Museum. National Justice Museum Education will also provide public legal education programmes in Nottingham, London and the North West.

Tim Desmond, chief executive for the museum said: “Whilst we have experienced a temporary delay in our capital works, we are looking forward to launching the National Justice Museum later in 2017 across all our legal and heritage sites in Nottingham, London and the North West.

“Meanwhile it is business as usual and our doors are open at the Galleries of Justice Museum so visitors can still come and be inspired to learn about their rights and responsibilities through our entertaining exhibitions and activities.”

The Galleries of Justice Museum will now remain open throughout January 2017.
