Organisers Tom Meehan & Simon Macdonald of Ultimate Fitness Experience

Local running enthusiasts from beginners to seasoned athletes will have a chance to test their new year’s fitness resolutions in March, when the inaugural East Midlands 10k run is staged in Nottingham.

Held on 5 March, this is a new event on the race calendar based at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, just 10 minutes away from Nottingham city centre.

Along this flat and fast course, set with minimal twists and turns, runners will take in the breathtaking views around this facility completing two 5km laps of the regatta lake and alongside the canoe slalom/white water rapids which is home to some of Great Britain’s Olympic athletes.

Organised by Ultimate Fitness Experience, creators of the Mercedes Benz Shrewsbury 10k and the GTE Telford 10k, the race is suitable for all athletes, from elite to first time competitors, with professional bibtag timing, bespoke medals and T-shirts for all competitors.

Race organiser Simon Macdonald explains: “After our successes in Shrewsbury and Telford we have been keen to expand the offering and Nottingham is perfect as it has a huge heritage and a massive running base, thanks to the ever-popular Robin Hood Marathon and Half Marathon.

“We wanted to create an event that would allow both a gentle introduction to running for beginners, making good on their new year’s resolutions but also competitive runners seeking a fast time and some solid speed work ahead of the London Marathon in April. Being able to secure the National Water Sports Centre is a real coup for us and all of our runners who will be hoping to post some record times or just to get their first 10k under their belts.”

The race has been officially measured and certified as 10km by AUKCM and has a UKA Licence, meaning all times will be officially UK affiliated and recorded as a “power of 10” time. The entry fee is £18, with a discount for members of official running clubs.
