Pall-Ex buys out two members

Leicestershire palletised freight network Pall-Ex has bought out two of its long-standing members.

Dorset-based Shears Brothers has been acquired by Pall-Ex, covering the BH, DT, GY, JE and SP postcodes, along with part of the PO and SO postcode areas. Shears Brothers is a long-standing partner at Pall-Ex, having been a member since 1997.

Bowden Transport, based in Essex, joined the Pall-Ex network in 1999 and covers the IG, RM, SS and part of the CM and E postcode areas. Pall-Ex has bought the assets of its logistics arm and will trade as a new entity called Bowden Logistics Services.

Kevin Buchanan, managing director at Pall-Ex said: “The purchase of Shears Brothers and Bowden Logistics demonstrates our commitment to creating centres of excellence around the country. By investing in established firms like these, we can ensure continuation of outstanding service and customer care across the network. It will also mean we can provide a broader range of logistics services.”

Shears Brothers, which has previously won the Pall-Ex Depot of the Year Award, anticipates a growth of 5.5 per cent over the next 12 months thanks to this acquisition. Bowden Logistics’ sales are expected to increase by 7.5 per cent.

Depot principal Andy Roberts said: “Since the acquisition of Shears Brothers, existing customers have stayed with us on our journey, and we have attracted new customers too. Our team has gone from strength-to-strength, and we look forward to more exciting future opportunities that this acquisition will present.”

Roy Bowden, CEO of the Bowden Group, said: “I’m very pleased to be handing over the logistics arm of this business to Pall-Ex, I know that it will be in safe hands. The transition is going extremely well and the customers are already happy with the progress we have made.”

Founder of Pall-Ex Hilary Devey CBE, added:“Shears Brothers and Bowden Logistics have played critical roles in the Pall-Ex network since joining us almost two decades ago and I’m excited to see how these new deals can help both businesses achieve their ambitious growth plans in the coming years.

“The purchase will also allow us to continue the great work of the depot principals and support their wishes in years to come.”
