University to get green light for 14,300 sq ft office block
Plans by Nottingham Trent University to build a 14,300 sq ft office building on the site of a former Indian restaurant are set to get the go ahead.
Nottingham City Council’s Planning Committee met yesterday afternoon (17 May) to give the green light to the offices which will house 200 people on the site of the demolished former Posh Spice building at 23 Goldsmith Street in the city centre, right next to Rescue Rooms and Stealth.
The offices, designed by CPMG architects, will be four-storeys high. Other firms working on the scheme are Curtins, Gleeds, Focus and Couch Perry Wilkes.
Nottingham Trenrt University says it wants to build the office to space to “further cement the university’s profile in the area”.
Ged O’Donoghue, director of estates and resources at Nottingham Trent University, said: “Nottingham Trent University is keen to regenerate the site and we have submitted planning permission for the construction of a new building. We are in the process of drawing up detailed proposals for its future use, which could include office and teaching space.”
In a design and access statement, CPMG says: “Nottingham’s strength in the banking and professional sector is reflective in the take up of office space amounting to approximately 150,000 sq ft per annum for the last five years .
However, take up for office space has been constrained due to the lack of quality A grade office space, leading to a current active requirement of 250,000 sq ft.
“If there is to be continued growth within these sectors and other office based industries it is essential that there is continued investment into grade A office space. Under investment in this area could lead to Nottingham losing its position as a regional centre for business and being unable to compete with other Core Cities such as Bristol, Leeds and Manchester. A consequence of under investment, is the possibility of businesses locating to other Core Cities where quality grade A office space is readily available.”
