6 things to do in the East Midlands this Bank Holiday weekend

The Big Bake
The Great Food and Drink Festival returns to Newstead Abbey this weekend. This year’s event is the ‘Big Bake’, which is aiming to inspire everyone to get baking. As well as a wide range of food and drink stalls to enjoy, there will also be live music and entertainment for both adults and the kids. The event will also see celebrity bakers taking to the stage, including the current Great British Bake Off Champion Candice Brown, Rosemary Shrager and Cherish Finden, from Bake off Crème del la Crème. Great Expectations
Enter the world of Charles Dickens in the surroundings of the medieval Guildhall in Leicester on Saturday night. The great great grandson of Charles Dickens, Gerald Dickens, will be performing the masterpiece Great Expectations, playing every character himself, like Pip, Miss Haversham, Estella, Jaggers and Magwitch. Outdoor Film Screenings
Wollaton Park are hosting a series of film screening evenings this weekend, giving you the perfect opportunity to not only explore the grounds of Wollaton Hall, but also watch some of your favourite films with the gang. Friday night will see Pretty Woman on screen, follows by Jurassic Park on Saturday, The Dark Knight Rises on Sunday and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Monday. Find out more here.

Southwell Music Festival
Classical music fans are in for a treat this weekend at Southwell Music Festival. The festival is set to be home to a whole host of international, national and local musicians over the weekend, including performances from Suzie Thorn, Mala Cabeza and Lonneke van Straalen. City Festival
This year’s City Festival in Leicester is set to come to an end this weekend. There are a whole host of activities taking place, including lots of comedy to enjoy, like the Comedy in the Dark installation and a Monty Python ‘dress-up’. Bank Holiday Cocktails and Crime
The National Justice Museum in Nottingham are hosting a fun cocktails and crime evening this weekend. Visitors will be told the case and then will have the chance to question the key suspects before working out who the murderer is, which will be revealed at the end of the evening.
