The Nottingham store of stricken Multiyork Furniture has been sold to DFS as part of a £1.2m deal that will save 35 jobs

DFS has bought eight stores across the UK and says it will use six of them for its Sofa Workshop brand.

DFS has also acquired all intellectual property rights of Multiyork, including the Multiyork trademark, product designs, domain names and marketing databases.

Multiyork will continue to be traded by the administrators until 18 February, under a licence from DFS, at which point trading under the Multiyork brand will cease.

Gill Stewart, chief executive, Sofa Workshop said: “We are delighted to take this opportunity to expand our store network, offering customers a local presence where they can experience Sofa Workshop’s exclusive range of modern, luxury, hand-made furniture. We very much look forward to welcoming the sales colleagues from Multiyork as part of our network of experienced store teams.”

Ian Filby, chief executive, DFS Furniture added: “We are pleased by this positive outcome, which offers a clear opportunity to accelerate our growth plans for Sofa Workshop, as it continues to go from strength to strength.”

The other seven store leases are: Beverley; Cheltenham; Epping; Guildford; St Albans; Winchester; and Thurrock.

Last month, more than 100 jobs have been lost jobs at the headquarters of troubled furniture chain Multiyork, which has 50 stores across the country, administrators have confirmed.

The firm was ultimately owned Charles Wade of Wade Furniture Group – based at Ravenstone Hall, near Coalville.
