Plans for 77 student flats set to be thrown out by City Council

The previous scheme was thrown out by planners

Plans for 77 student apartments in Derby city centre are set to be thrown out by Derby City Council’s planning department.

Godwin Developments had lodged plans with Derby City Council to build and eight-storey scheme in Agard Street, which has already seen plans for two more student schemes, on a site currently used as a car park, between Northgate House and the Derby Chiropractic Clinic.

Despite the development being supported by Marketing Derby in a letter from the organisation’s managing director John Forkin, the City Council’s planning department said: “On balance, the public benefits of the proposed residential development are outweighed by the significant adverse impacts, by virtue of its design, overall layout, scale, and overwhelming massing impact in this location.”

The Council’s Planning Committee will sit on 31 May to decide on the scheme.
