Weekender: Leicester arts collective set to rock the boat
Leicester arts collective House of Verse will perform their 50th show as Houseboat of Verse at the Riverside Festival onboard a canal boat.
The show will stretch over the two festival days and have a nautical theme. Tamsin, the boat, will be moored opposite Castle Gardens on the River Soar. With live music, spoken word, DJs, bellydance, rap and more, it promises to be one of the festival’s highlights.
Founder Jenny Hibberd, a graduate of De Montfort University, launched her creative enterprise with help from the Crucible Project at the Innovation Centre. House of Verse CIC is currently sponsored by Pro Active Resolutions.
“Since 2014, we have staged performances in many locations in Leicester, Leicestershire and beyond, however Houseboat of Verse will be the best and most unusual yet,” she says. “To actually be on the river for Riverside is amazing. The boat has been converted into a stage. It’ll be free, family-friendly and fun – there’ll be something for everyone.”
Riverside Festival runs from 12pm to 7pm on Saturday 2 June and 12pm to 5pm on Sunday 3 June.
