330 jobs to be created as £50m Nottingham scheme gets go-ahead

How the new scheme will look

A new student apartment development will give Nottingham a £20m boost after being formally granted planning permission today, according to the company which will manage it.

City planners have given the green light for the accommodation provider, Vita Student, which will see 323 apartments built on Station Street for the 2020 academic year.

The development of the nine storey building, on the site of the former Job Centre, will see an of around £50m into the Station Street Area. Alongside developer Bildurn’s development of 11 Station Street, which will create around 50,000 sq ft of new Grade A office space, over 330 jobs will be created during the build alone, adding a value of £19.9m GVA to the local and regional economy.

Vita Group’s strategic planning director, Michele Steel, said: “Nottingham has been on our radar for some time, with over 50,000 highly achieving students in the city, it’s a no brainer for us. We are so much more than accommodation providers, and want our students to use our contacts and the support we offer to really kick start their careers. We’re looking forward to giving the city’s student community the Vita Student treatment and proving our value in the city.”

Vita Student’s Nottingham residence will have an extensive social area on the ground floor, which will host talks, conferences and events for students, as well as areas for study and socialising. In addition to the 323 individually contained apartments, there will also be a coffee bar, study, social and media lounges.

Work is expected to start in November 2018 and finish in time for the start of the 2020 academic year.
