Plans submitted for £22m Tigers hotel

How the hotel will look

Long-awaited plans to develop a hotel at Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road Ground have finally been submitted to the City Council, according to reports.

The Leicester Mercury says the scheme, which has been held up by more than a year because of funding issues, could get underway next year.

Tigers have signed a deal with Marshall CDP, a company which will contribute the majority of the £22m needed to build the hotel, says The Mercury.

The hotel, on the site of the former Granby Halls, will also include a business centre, retail, restaurant and ‘sky bar’.

Tigers chief executive now says he wants to sign a similar deal to bring forward a 750-space multi-storey car park on the opposite side of the ground.

The news comes weeks after Leicester Tigers posted losses of nearly £1m in its last financial year, despite record revenues of over £20m.
