Australian consortium eyes Notts County takeover

An group of Australian businessmen are ahead in the race to buy Notts County, according to reports.

Nottinghamshire Live says that the three unnamed businessmen will attend this Saturday’s crunch local derby with top-of-the-table Lincoln City at Meadow Lane. The Magpies desperately need a good result as they sit eight points adrift of safety at the foot of the Football League.

Nottinghamshire Live says the group made contact with the club on Monday, the day after current owner and chairman Alan Hardy put the club up for sale.

An Irish consortium is also said to be interested in buying the club, and there is continued interest from Jam Sports Ventures, an American investment vehicle owned by former New York Yankees chief Joseph A Molloy.

Hardy has owned the club since January 2017, but this season County have struggled to replicate last season’s form when they reached the League 2 play-off semi-finals.
