Mixed-use plan for Nottingham city centre building

The building on Lister Gate

Some 24 student bedrooms are set to come to Lister Gate in Nottingham as part of a mixed-use development.

TheBusinessDesk.com understands that SJR Retail (Nottingham) has been given permission to turn 27-29 Lister Gate into a mixture of student accommodation on the upper three floors and retail on the ground floor – both of which are vacant at present.

SJR Retail has owned the building for over a decade and has asked Campbell Property to develop and manage the student accomodation scheme. Campbell has has over fifteen years’ experience developing and managing student accommodation schemes across the UK with a strong presence in Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Leeds. It has a portfolio of over 200 properties with in excess of 2,000 student bedrooms.

The property will provide accommodation for students from Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham, with the target market UK and overseas undergraduate students in their second and third years.

The retail units on the ground floor of the scheme would be knocked through to create one, larger space.

A statement from Wilmore Iles architects said: “The proposals will provide a high quality, mixed-use scheme in the city centre, with retail at the ground floor and student accommodation above, arranged in small independent units.”
