Over 500 jobs under threat as Bathstore enters administration

Over 500 jobs are in danger after administrators were called in to retailer Bathstore.

The bathroom firm will continue to trade while administrator BDO seeks a buyer for the chain, which has 135 stores across the UK.

BDO says the company was placed into administration “after several months of difficult trading, and the failure of ongoing talks to find a buyer for the business”.

Bathstore says it will fulfil “as many orders as possible” but that it won’t be offering installation services for the foreseeable future.

The company, which employs 531 people, is owned by American billionaire Warren Stephens who backed a management buy-out five years ago.

BDO partner Ryan Grant said: “Despite significant investment into the business over the past five years, Bathstore has struggled to overcome the well-documented challenges facing the UK retail sector.”

Bathstore has six outlets across the East Midlands.
