Former council leader joins developer

Jon Collins

Former Nottingham City Council leader Jon Collins has been appointed by Godwin Group as a public sector advisor on its advisory board.

The appointment comes as Godwin looks to develop and increase the work it does with public sector and local authority partners across the country.

This is Collins’ first appointment since leaving the council and he brings 40 years’ experience in local government, the public and voluntary sectors to the role.

He served 32 years at Nottingham City Council, 16 of which were as council leader responsible for property and finance management, transport, neighbourhood and city centre regeneration and economic development.

Stephen Pratt group land director at Godwin said: “I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Jon Collins to our advisory board. Jon will head up our group’s public sector advisors across the UK. Jon brings with him a wealth of public sector experience having been leader of Nottingham City Council and delivering numerous successful schemes in the city.

“Godwin has several joint ventures with UK councils and Jon will be helping to deliver numerous successful schemes, along with attracting more joint ventures with various councils in the UK.”

Prior to becoming council leader, Collins completed an MBA in Public Services at The Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV) and worked as an urban regeneration consultant and housing development officer.

Collins has chaired Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Police Authority, served on East Midlands Regional Development Agency, Nottingham Primary Care Trust, D2N2 LEP, and The East Midlands HS2 Programme Board and for more than 20 years continues to chair the Renewal Trust, a local community development trust.

Collins said: “I am excited to be joining Godwin Development’s advisory board and to contribute my public sector, regeneration and property experience to help support the growth and future success of the company.”

Godwin recently launched Godwin Partnerships which will manage all the organisations’ joint venture agreements.
