On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Luke Abbott

Architectural practice Stephen George + Partners has appointed a new studio director at its Leicester office.

Luke Abbott will work with partner Marcus Madden-Smith in the firm’s industrial and logistics sector group. He joins the company from Roger Coy Partnership where he was director of architecture.

Abbott said: “I was attracted to SGP as I knew them as an established practice, but with an ambition to expand and the resources and talent to make that expansion work. I’ve designed buildings across many sectors but am now looking forward to focusing my skills in the industrial and logistics market.”

Marcus Madden-Smith added: “Luke will be a great asset to the practice, bringing years of management and technical expertise to SGP. Industrial and logistics is a core sector for us, and one where we are well-known for our ability to deliver client requirements, from a range of building sizes and complexities.”

The firm has also announced that principal architect Nita Varia and architect Satnam Flora have been promoted to the level of associate.

Elsewhere, East Midlands law firm Sills & Betteridge has offered two newly qualified solicitors full time roles following the successful completion of their training contracts with the firm.

Kia Butterfield and Danielle Hardy will begin their career working from the firm’s Skegness branch. Butterfield will work in the firm’s residential property department while Hardy joins the wills, trusts and probate team.

Butterfield said: “I liked the fast paced, process driven nature of conveyancing work and the opportunity to be part of a firm which values both its employees and clients. There is substantial investment taking place in Skegness including an increase in buy to let activity, so it is an exciting time to work in property. Clients come back to us again and again as they build up their property portfolios, enabling us to get to know our clients and build solid relationships.”

Hardy added: “It has always been important to me to work for a firm that encourages progression. I like working in the S&B Skegness branch as it has a supportive team spirit and friendly atmosphere. Being part of a large firm also means there are opportunities to fulfil my ambitions so I feel I have the best of both worlds.”
