Jobs under threat as sweet factory set to close

The Fox’s Glacier Mint factory in Leicester is poised to shut down, endangering over 180 jobs.

According to a report by BusinessLive, only 17 people have been relocated to an alternative site by Fox’s owner Big Bear Confectionery, leaving the remaining 183 workers stranded.

The report states that a consultation has taken place but the findings have yet to be revealed, leaving workers at the historic company facing an uncertain future.

The factory on Braunstone Frith Industrial Estate had been slated for closure earlier this year after Valeo Foods Group announced its intention to merge Big Bear Confectionery with another of its brands.

Employees were notified of the decision at the time but are now on tenterhooks as they wait for further updates.

Big Bear also manufactures Poppets, XXX mints and Just Brazils.
