East Midlands firms win big at CIPR awards

The cream of the East Midlands PR crop put in another stellar performance at this year’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) awards, with three Nottingham firms run by former journalists bagging Gold and Silver prizes.

The annual CIPR Midlands Pride event in Birmingham last Friday 27 September saw BakerBaird Communications, London PR and Cartwright Communications all walk away with prestigious gongs.

BakerBaird, co-founded by former Nottingham Post business editor Richard Baker, won Gold in the Integrated Campaign of the Year category for its work on the BabySaver, a device developed by the University of Liverpool’s Sanyu unit and colleagues in Uganda to reduce infant mortality in low resource countries. The company also scooped a CIPR Media Relations award for its client the UK2070 Commission.

Lenton-based agency London PR, the brainchild of former Nottingham Post and Daily Mirror journalist Steve McComish, took home Gold and Silver awards in the Transport and Automotive and Outstanding Small PR Consultancy categories respectively. The Gold award, which recognised the agency’s work with Stoke-on-Trent based Central Contracts, comes ahead of a planned rebrand for the firm.

Meanwhile, Cartwright Communications, established by another Nottingham Post alumnus Liz Cartwright, received a Silver award in the Healthcare Campaign category for its work with Body Lipo Lincoln, an aesthetics and wellness clinic in Lincolnshire.

Loughborough University took home three awards – a Gold for best Internal Communications campaign and Silvers for Best Use of Content and Outstanding In-House Public Relations Team.

Derbyshire-based Balls2Marketing won the Outstanding Small PR Consultancy category and was deemed second best Outstanding PR Consultancy.

BakerBaird Communications director Stuart Baird said: “We’ve won awards every year since we were launched now and to win two in one year is the icing on the cake. To be able to work on projects and with clients who are transformational and inspiring is a real privilege.”

London PR director Steve McComish said: “It was wonderful to win both Gold and Silver Awards at the CIPR Midlands Pride event this year. These wins are a wonderful recognition of all the hard work the team has put in over the past 12 months. We’ve got some big plans for 2020 and this is only the start.”
