Rare planning consent granted to former foundry site

The Foundry Works

A rare opportunity has cropped up for waste management firms looking to gain a foothold in Derbyshire.

The old Foundry Works on Lows Lane in Ilkeston has been put up for sale after the site was granted waste-related planning consent, an uncommon type of planning permission awarded to precious few sites across the country.

The fully serviced, self-contained 7-acre recycling site has been brought to market by Trust UTILITY Management, and joint agents Savills and Chadwick McRae are now hoping to attract a national recycling business to the area.

An Environment Agency Permit to operate waste operations has also been granted to the site, which is situated adjacent to the M1 to the north of Junction 25.

Victor Ktori, head of office at Savills Nottingham, said: “The Foundry Works is a unique site that would be ideal for a national recycling firm looking for a strong regional satellite base. This is a well-established location with a number of key businesses already operating in the local area, including Saint Gobain, Stanton Recycling and Mobile Mini. Due to its rare nature we expect to receive a considerable amount of interest from potential occupiers.”
