Green light for more student flats in Nottingham

Nottingham City Council has granted planning permission for more student accommodation to be built – this time in the East side of the city.

In March, it was revealed that Environment Design Consultants had submitted an application to create 72 student units at a new scheme called Union Place.

The proposed development was slated to take place at a vacant site on the corner of Union Road and Curzon Street.

The original plans showed that the development would be eight storeys high and spread across eight cluster flats.

Environment Design Consultants has now been given the green light to build on the site, but the plans have been altered. A development of five cluster flats will now be erected instead of the larger-scale building originally planned.

The Council has also insisted that no ground-breaking or building can take place at the site until a programme of archaeological investigation and works has been submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority. This will ensure that any archaeological remains at the site are “appropriately preserved.”

Nottingham and Leicester-based architects Boden Associates have put together designs for the new development.
