‘Disappointing’ year for listed X-ray firm

Specialist X-ray screening systems supplier Image Scan has seen its sales and profits decline – a disappointment it has attributed to delays in overseas government contracts.

The Leicestershire-based company posted a drop in sales from £3.5 million to £2.4 million in its results for the year ended 30 September 2019.

In contrast to the previous year, which saw the firm make a £49,000 profit, the company made a loss before tax of approximately £370,000 during the period.

It will now be hoping that an improved order intake in the final quarter is a sign of better things to come.

Bill Mawer, chairman and chief executive of Image Scan, said: “It is disappointing to be reporting a decline in sales and profits. However, while the portable X-ray market has undoubtably become more competitive, recent orders show that our strong product range and focused international sales activity can still deliver. I am pleased to report that we start the new financial year with an order book that includes more portable systems than were delivered in all of last year. Our strong network of international partners will provide further growth opportunities as new products come to market.”

Image Scan supplies the security and industrial inspection sectors from its base in Barrow upon Soar near Loughborough.
