East Midlands firm bags key role in maritime regeneration scheme

A Nottingham-based firm is set to play a key role in a new regeneration project in Hull.

A £27.4 million heritage-led scheme to create a new sense of place, identity and belonging is about to get underway in the city, with Focus Consultants acting as NEC contract administrator on the project.

The Grade II listed Hull Maritime Museum, the Dock Office Chambers, the North End Shipyard and two historic vessels, the Arctic Corsair and Spurn Lightship, will all be receiving an upgrade.

Focus Consultants was appointed to the project by Purcell, the conservation architects and heritage consultants.

The scheme has been awarded £13.6 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Hull City Council is putting forward £10 million of match funding, along with a further £4.3 million for the redevelopment of Queens Gardens, once the world’s largest dock, which will connect the three key sites involved in the development.

Mike Lee, associate at Focus Consultants, said: “This is a super project which will preserve and promote Hull’s amazing maritime history, building on the success that the city achieved two years ago when it was UK City of Culture. It’s great news that it has recently been awarded £13.6 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the delivery phase of the project, and Focus Consultants – with huge experience in both heritage and regeneration schemes – is looking forward to having a role in the plans.”
