Major £110m redevelopment site set to take a step closer

The future of the £110m redevelopment site in Nottingham city centre is “progressing well”, according its developer, despite the deadline for submitting a planning application being moved back.

Mark Bielby, development director at Miller Birch, said the 300,000 sq ft Guildhall mixed-use scheme on the site of the former City Council offices and Nottingham’s former station, will soon be the subject of a public consultation.

Bielby said: “The scheme overall is progressing well. We had a presentation to planning committee this week on a pre-application agenda. This was mainly focussed on the hotel proposals but it’s fair to say it was received extremely well.”

He added: “A public consultation will be coming up in next few weeks in advance of the hotel planning application being submitted.”

Miller Birch had previously hoped to submit a planning application in late spring or early summer.

Original plans showed the scheme will be made up of a hotel, student accommodation and around 90,000 sq ft of offices.

Miller Birch bought the site from Nottingham City Council in 2016. The Guildhall previously housed Nottingham’s central police and fire services, which have since moved to Byron House on Maid Marian Way and a purpose built station on London Road respectively.

The building had also previously been a criminal and magistrates court up to 1995, and it was revealed that there is an extensive network of caves under the building.
