Leisure operator gets go-ahead for 450-capacity city centre venue

A bar and leisure operator has been given the go-ahead expand its Nottingham footprint in a move that will create almost 40 jobs in the city

Roxy Leisure will open a second Nottingham venue. The company, which currently runs the Roxy Ballroom venue on Thurland Street, will open a larger bar and restaurant in the former Red Hot World Buffet unit in the Cornerhouse development in Nottingham city centre.

Documents seens by TheBusinessDesk.com show plans that will include a bar, restaurant, bowling alley, pool tables, table tennis and shuffleboard and could have a capacity of 450 people at peak times.

A planning statement reads: “The proposed change of use from restaurant (Use Class A3) to leisure (Use Class D2), with ancillary restaurant/bar facilities (Use Classes A3 / A4), would deliver a high quality leisure facility in the heart of Nottingham City Centre, which would complement the existing range of town centre uses in the city centre as a whole and those included in The Cornerhouse itself. The proposals would result in the re-occupation of a vacant unit, thereby creating additional activity, and would contribute to the vitality and viability of the city centre.

“In the light of the above, the proposed development is considered to be in accordance with the relevant planning policy framework at all tiers and will make an important contribution towards the vitality and viability of Nottingham City Centre.”
