EMA appoints new cargo chief

Steven Harvey

East Midlands Airport (EMA) has appointed a new vice president of cargo.

Steven Harvey will head up the airport’s cargo operation – the largest dedicated operation of its kind in the UK.

Harvey brings 30 years’ experience to the role, having previously held senior positions at CargoLogic Management; CargoLogicAir, where he was CCO; EMEIA Atlas Air; Volga Dnepr UK and Ruslan International.

Home to companies including DHL, UPS, FedEx/TNT and Royal Mail, EMA is second only to London Heathrow in terms of the total annual tonnage of cargo it handles.

As reported by TheBusinessDesk.com, the airport recently recorded its highest ever monthly cargo volume. Over 34,877 tonnes of goods passed through its doors in October, eclipsing its previous busiest month – November 2018 – when it handled 34,107 tonnes.

Following Harvey’s appointment, EMA is expected to unveil a new commercial strategy early in the New Year.

He said: “I’m very excited to be joining the team at EMA. The opportunities for the airport are significant particularly as the UK considers new trading relationships with countries all over the world. In future years, EMA will play an even more critical role in facilitating UK trade, supporting businesses and creating jobs for people in this region. I look forward to helping the airport achieve this.”

Beth Brewster, EMA’s commercial and transformation director, added: “I’m delighted that Steven is joining EMA at a time when we are planning for the longer-term. Steven’s knowledge of the air cargo industry and, particularly his experience of working with airlines, will be invaluable as we shape our strategies for future growth.”

A new £114 million UPS facility is currently taking shape at EMA. The facility – UPS’ largest outside the US – will double the size of its logistics operation at the airport.
