Construction worker dies in tragic digger accident

A construction worker has been killed whilst working on a student accommodation development in Lincoln.

The 23-year old Nottingham man, who was an employee of civil engineering sub-contractor Melfort Construction Services, died after being trapped under a digger.

Melfort was on site carrying out work for Lindum Group.

Police were called to the incident at 10.48am yesterday (9 January).

In a statement, Lindum Group company secretary Herman Kok said: “We are extremely sad that an employee of one of our sub-contractors has lost his life following an incident on one of our construction sites earlier today.

“We will be working closely with the HSE and emergency teams as they carry out their investigations into the tragic event and we will be supporting Lindum employees and other site personnel who have been affected.”

The circumstances of the accident are yet to be fully established.
