200 jobs created as troubled retailer strikes logistics deal

Troubled lifestyle brand Joules has enlisted Leeds-based e-fulfilment and returns management firm Clipper Logistics to handle its logistics operations.

The 5-year deal will see Clipper fulfil orders for Joules’ retail, e-commerce and wholesale customers from a variety of UK and international suppliers.

The contract will begin imminently, with around 200 people expected to staff the operation across sites including Joules’ Corby distribution centre.

Millions of pounds will be invested into the operation during 2020 and 2021 to expand capacity and drive efficiency.

Marc Dench, CFO at Joules Group, said: “We are delighted to be entering this long-term partnership with Clipper for the operation of our distribution centre in Corby. Through the process we have been impressed with Clipper’s capabilities and their cultural alignment with our business.”

Steve Parkin, executive chairman of Clipper, added: “The new contract with Joules represents a significant contract win and is demonstrative of our ability to deliver cost-effective solutions for retailers of any scale. We are delighted to have been awarded this contract with one of the premier multi-channel retailers in UK and Europe, and look forward to working with the Joules team over the years ahead.”

The deal is a positive step for Market Harborough-based Joules, which saw its share price slump on Friday after a trading update revealed its retail operation had struggled over Christmas due to a stock availability issue.
