Derby suffers from fall in railway station users

The total number of users at Derby Railway Station dropped by 200,000 in 2018-19, according to new figures.

The Office of Rail and Road says that 3.9 million used Derby station during the period – down from a decade-high 4.1 million in 2017-18. It slipped from being the 126th most-used station in the UK to the 141st.

Elsewhere in the East Midlands, Nottingham moved up one place to the 61st most-used station with just over 8 million users, while Leicester stayed at 89th with almost 5.6 million. Lincoln moved up 12 places to 305th with 1.97 million entries and exits over the period.

Overall, the region’s railway stations are at their most popular for decades, with some 46.4 million people using them during 2018-19.
