In a boost for local railway services, Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has been formally recognised by The Department of Transport – meaning it can now apply for additional public funding.

The government has awarded the Derbyshire County Council-sponsored organisation accreditation status in recognition of the high standards of service on the line, which runs between Matlock and Nottingham via Cromford and Belper.

The CRP is a partnership between East Midlands Railway, CrossCountry Trains, Amber Valley Borough Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council, the Peak District National Park Authority and several local town and parish councils.

If the CRP is successful in securing funding, the cash will be used to renovate station buildings, improve access to stations and cultivate the natural environment to encourage local wildlife.

Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, cabinet support member and chairman for highways, transport and infrastructure and chairman of the Derwent Valley CRP, said: “Accreditation is an official stamp of approval for the CRP, and I would especially like to thank the Association of Community Rail Partnerships and East Midlands Railway for their support in us achieving this.

“Considerable credit for the CRP’s success is due to the work with our partner organisations and the many station volunteers who help make our stations more welcoming for passengers.”
