Animal rights group buys stake in Frasers

Animal rights group Peta has bought shares in Mike Ashley’s Frasers – formerly Sports Direct.

The pressure group has bought the stake to agitate against House of Fraser – one of the group’s portfolio companies – selling real fur products.

The deal will mean that Peta will be able to attend Frasers’ AGM with investors later this year to make its case against fur.

In November last year House of Fraser was found to be selling real fur when a £240 coat by French designer Pyronex was described on its website as having a 100% raccoon fur trim, despite saying it had stopped selling fur in 2017. Peta has spent the time since protesting outside House of Fraser stores.
