A major shopping and leisure destination in Lincolnshire has submitted ambitious expansion plans to South Holland District Council which could create around 350 new jobs.

Springfields Outlet in Spalding, which is owned by the Triton Property Fund LP managed by UBS Asset Management, has finalised plans to bring up to 15 new stores and three café and restaurant units on site.

236 additional parking spaces and more electric vehicle chargers are also planned.

The improvements would take place on Camelgate next to the NFU Mutual building and the town’s Travelodge.

Should the plans be approved, the total number of people employed at the centre could rise to around 1,000.

Ian Sanderson of SLR Outlets, which operates Springfields Outlet, said: “Springfields has gone from strength to strength since opening over 15 years ago and I am proud that we can lead on this significant investment into Spalding. New high-quality retail and leisure space at Springfields Outlet will improve our offer to customers, cement our position as the leading shopping and leisure destination in the east of England, and create a large number of new jobs for local people.”

The planning application will deliver on the recently approved South East Lincolnshire Local Plan, which has allocated additional retail space at Springfields Outlet. The outlet will work with the local authority and other stakeholders to ensure that the town centre benefits from the expected increase in visitor numbers.

Sanderson added: “Over many years, Springfields Outlet has invested heavily in new technology and innovative ways of advertising and promoting Springfields and the town. This planning application gives us a renewed opportunity to work with the council and traders to promote the town centre and wider area.”
