Nottingham was ‘actively reviewing’ withdrawal options prior to MIPIM postponement

As the fallout from Reed Midem’s decision to postpone MIPIM 2020 continues, two East Midlands teams have welcomed the delay – with Team Nottingham revealing it was already “actively reviewing” withdrawal options before the key call was made.

MIPIM, the world’s largest commercial property event, has been postponed due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. It was due to take place in Cannes on 10-13 March.

The decision has met with a mixed response, with certain voices reacting angrily on social media after being unable to reschedule hotel reservations and travel bookings.

However, the delegations from Nottingham and Lincolnshire have both released statements backing the postponement on health and safety grounds.

Team Nottingham said: “Team Nottingham welcomes the decision from Reed Midem to postpone MIPIM 2020 as a result of the concerns around COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“We had been actively reviewing our withdrawal options before Saturday’s announcement to ensure the health and safety of all our partners, as the evolving nature of the virus around Europe has made it impossible for the organiser to hold the event safely.

“We will continue to work closely with Reed Midem, our partners and suppliers to review the impact that this will have on all parties, and what the plans will be going forward.”

Team Lincolnshire also welcomed the decision, which will now see the event take place in June.

Ruth Carver, chief executive of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, said: “The recent developments of COVID-19 (coronavirus) has made it impossible for MIPIM to take place as planned, and we welcome the decision to postpone.

“The health and safety of our partners and team members is our number one priority and we believe this postponement is the right decision to safeguard everyone’s wellbeing.

“We are currently working through the practicalities of the decision and will update Team Lincolnshire partners as appropriate.”

In the wake of the postponement, property professionals across the region have been looking into holding alternative events closer to home.
